As part of the Riga Chess School summer camp “Mežezers 2026”, a Dice Chess tournament took place. This format adds an element of luck to the traditional game and makes the matches especially dynamic and unpredictable: even an experienced player is not safe from surprises, while beginners get a chance to defeat much stronger opponents.
40 participants took their seats at the boards — alongside the young chess players, the coaches themselves joined the competition. The opportunity to play against their own coaches became not only an interesting test for the kids, but also a fun challenge, because it’s not every day that you get to play against your coach — and even win.
The tournament took place in an exciting and friendly atmosphere: emotions ran high at every table, and the dice rolls more than once turned around games that seemed already decided.
Tournament winners:
1st place — Girts Tenis
2nd place — Maksims Ivanisvili
3rd place — Ernests Ezerins
Girls’ competition:
1st place — Ance Celmalniece
2nd place — Lineta Merke
3rd place — Jevgenija Dainenko
Participants who finished in places 1 through 20 received a set of gaming dice as a prize. In addition, surprise prizes were raffled off, with Oskars Pakula, Rems Markuss Vilumsons and Viktorija Sumeiko becoming the lucky winners.
Congratulations to the prize winners and thank you to all participants for the exciting games! The Dice Chess tournament became one of the most memorable events of the “Mežezers 2026” camp, and we are confident that this tradition will definitely continue.
