Dice Chess at the Largest Children’s Chess Festival in Sweden

09.04.2025

The Dice Chess team visited one of the world’s largest children’s chess events — *Schackfyran* (translated as “Chess Four”), which took place from April 1st to 3rd at the Globen Annex in Stockholm. This year’s event broke all records, bringing together 6,471 students from 300 school class teams (4,286 participants in Schackfyran and 2,185 in the Schack56an tournament). In total, the Stockholm Chess Federation reached 10,598 students from 427 classes and 159 different schools. Schackfyran is not just a competition — it is a large-scale social project where every participant matters, and the entire class works together as a team. Since its founding in 1978, the project has taught chess to more than half a million 10-year-old students.

At this inspiring event, the Dice Chess team presented an exhibition of their unique game, which combines the strategic depth of classical chess with an element of unpredictability. Children enthusiastically tried out the game in action, participated in mini-tournaments, and entered fun competitions with prizes. It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce the younger generation to an alternative form of chess that develops both strategic thinking and the ability to adapt to unexpected situations.

It was especially heartwarming to witness the children’s genuine emotions — they were thrilled by the unique format of Dice Chess, eagerly asked questions, and returned to play again and again. Many were excited by the chance to experience something new in the world of chess. In addition to the students, teachers from various schools also showed great interest in the game. They enthusiastically discussed its potential as an educational tool and expressed a desire to implement Dice Chess in their classrooms and extracurricular programs.

The Dice Chess team sincerely thanks the organizers of Schackfyran and the Stockholm Chess Federation for the warm welcome and the opportunity to be part of this incredible event. It was an honor for us to present Dice Chess to such an inspiring and energetic audience. We truly hope this collaboration will continue, and we look forward to returning next year!
