During the 12th International Chess Festival “RTU Open 2023,” a “Dice Chess” tournament will take place.

The festival will be held from August 5th to August 13th, 2023, at the international exhibition center “Ķīpsala” in Riga (Ķīpsalas Street 8). RTU Open is one of the largest international chess festivals in Northern Europe. As a part of this grand event, a “Dice Chess” tournament open to players of all ages and skill levels will take place on August 9th at 10:30 AM.

The prize fund for the “Dice Chess” tournament is 400 EUR. Prizes will be awarded to the top 7 participants overall, the top 5 U-18 players, the best female participant, best senior (S50),  and additional special prizes and surprises may be included.

“Dice Chess” is a unique and exciting variation of chess that introduces an element of luck with three dice. The game has a very ancient history, originating around the 6th century in India and ancient Persia. In those times, it was known as Čaturanga and has transformed over the centuries to be internationally recognized as “Dice Chess.”
