On 16 August, Abgunste Manor – one of the most beautiful manors in Latvia – turned into a real Wonderland for a day. And the Dice Chess team had found its place in this fairy-tale setting too.
🎪 A festival that had it all
The manor hosts had put together a programme where everyone found something of their own. Throughout the day, visitors could enjoy:
- Dice Chess tables, open to absolutely everyone;
- theatre and live music;
- croquet on the green lawn;
- horse riding;
- bubble blowing, which delighted young and old alike;
- an orienteering game around the manor grounds;
- a wide variety of food and drinks;
- and a whole string of other surprises.
It is hard to name something the festival did not have.
✨ Costumes that created the magic
An invaluable part of the festival was that most people – guests and performers alike – had dressed up as Wonderland characters. Walking through the manor park were Alice, the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, the Mother of the Forest, the Writer, Little Red Riding Hood, princesses, little witches and many others.
It was clear that people had prepared for the festival with great imagination and a love for detail. That is exactly what made the atmosphere even more magical – at times it felt as though you had stepped not into a manor park, but onto the pages of a book.
🎲 Dice Chess at its table
The Dice Chess team was delighted by the great interest in the game. People gathered at the tables – both those who play chess regularly and those who had not held a piece in years.
The feedback throughout the day was much the same: this is a game everyone can play, young and old. The number rolled on the dice brings unpredictability into the game, which levels out the difference in strength between an experienced player and a beginner. It means grandparents and grandchildren can sit down at the same table, and the game will be interesting for both.
One more thing we noticed: Dice Chess connects people well. It was not only families and groups of friends who met at the table, but also completely random festival visitors who walked away from their game as acquaintances.
đź’› Thank you
A big thank you to the fantastic manor hosts and their team for the welcome, for the warmth, and for being able to create an event that makes you not even want to go home – because the place is simply magical.
And thank you to everyone who came to play – you were the ones who made this day so lovely.
