On March 21, 2025, the Open Dice Chess Cup took place in the assembly hall of Riga Secondary School No. 89. The event was organized by the public benefit organization — the association “Dice Chess Federation” — in cooperation with Riga Secondary School No. 89.
Student interest was extremely high — children from 16 different educational institutions in Riga took part in the tournament (Riga Secondary School No. 89, Riga Mežciems Primary School, Riga Secondary School No. 80, Riga State Classical Gymnasium, Riga Secondary School No. 34, Riga Natālija Draudziņa Secondary School, Riga Secondary School No. 84, Riga Secondary School No. 40, Riga Secondary School No. 22, A. Pumpurs Riga Primary School No. 11, Riga Secondary School No. 45, Riga Secondary School No. 31, Riga Green Primary School, Riga Primary School No. 63, Primary School “Būsim”, and the preschool “Pūcīte”).
The tournament format included 10 games — 5 double rounds — with a time control of 5 minutes + 5 seconds. As always at Dice Chess tournaments, the event was held in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. Participants fought for the top places until the very end. The first-place winner was decided in the final round, where Gauja Hugo Georgs (Riga Natālija Draudziņa Secondary School) and Pavel Chirkov (Riga Secondary School No. 34), both with 7 points, faced each other at the first board. This time, it was the student from Riga Secondary School No. 34 — Pavel — who proved more successful, winning both games and becoming the sole winner of the tournament.
Second and third places were determined by tiebreakers. This time, Naum Dmitriev (Riga Secondary School No. 84) had better additional indicators and finished second with 8 points. Maxim Ivanishvili (Riga Secondary School No. 89), also with 8 points, took third place.
The girls’ competition was also intense, with 8 girls participating. The girls’ champion this time was Anna Chirkova (Riga Secondary School No. 34) with 8 points. The results show that the Chirkov family is showing impressive performance in Dice Chess. Second place among girls went to Ksenija Bondareva (7 points, Riga Secondary School No. 80), and third place went to Varvara Gavrilova (5 points, Riga Secondary School No. 40).
